Started playing in 1947 when I got a cornet at dudley band aged 12 years after showng interest to learn. Registered in 1948 when playing 3rd cornet. Progressed through the band to occupy Principal cornet seat. The band fell on hard times with people moving and leaving the area. In 1968 I was approached by W. Lister who played Principal Euphonium in Ashington Colliery Band and was invited to joint the band as bumper up to John Stobbs.Johns father Jackie was the conductor at the time.

I played cornet until appoximatley 1979 when I had trouble with my lip and found that I needed a bigger mouthpeice. I moved onto BBb Bass for a few years and then changed to the Eb Bass.
